The Site

The Platform Control System is installed Offshore in the Arabian Gulf sector for Maersk Oil Qatar in 1996.

The Requirement

eProduction Solutions provided a complete turn key platform control system solution for this “jack up” rig.

The system comprised of a dual redundant PLC ESD system, Field Control I/O modules as well as a PID loop control completed with multiple operator interface.

The Solution

The system features a multiple node, hot standby Wonderware Intouch MMI SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) PCs at the operator interface level connected via Ethernet LAN (Local Area Network). Dual redundant GE Fanuc PLC ESD system with a hot back up 90-30 PLC. Remote I/O modules with local display connected via an RS485 serial interface to the Isolators junction boxes which is connected to the systems H2S and HC gas detectors. The I/O for the system is implemented for by using field control and Genius I/P which is connected to the Genius Bus. I.S barriers are provided for the field instruments with a local display data panel for each marshalling cabinet.
